Asphalt Recycling

Our Commitment to the Environment

Tarheel Paving is committed to operating in an environmentally responsible manner. We are constantly striving to conduct every aspect of our business in the most environmentally friendly way possible. Not only does our asphalt plant operate with natural gas but also has the ability to include recycled asphalt in all of our different asphalt mixes. While asphalt is the most recycled material in the United States, we recycle over 35,000 tons of reclaimed materials annually.

Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement

Reclaimed asphalt pavement (better known as RAP) is the term we use in the asphalt industry to describe removed pavement materials (materials containing asphalt and aggregate).

RAP is generated when pavement is removed for resurfacing streets, reconstruction or to give access to underground utilities. RAP is a material that is usually acquired through a cold planner milling machine. Furthermore, Tarheel Paving has a team of trained professionals who generate RAP daily. Thus, this material is hauled back to our plant where our asphalt specialist process the RAP back into our DOT certified asphalt mix.
